June 5 Event in Pittsboro

skatepark flyer

This coming Sunday in downtown Pittsboro is the monthly 1st Sunday Celebration. The Pittsboro Skatepark Committee along with the town of Pittsboro and the Parks and Rec Department have organized a site on the corner of East Salisbury Street for all of you to skate. We will have that corner blocked off with a quarter pipe, spine, grind box, and rail. We will have lots of cool water for you to drink, so come on down and support the effort to build a skatepark in Pittsboro. It is important for the town and community to see you there enjoying this mini session. They need to know that you want this to happen! The best way to show that, is to come out and have fun! We will be set up from 12-4 on Sunday, June 5.

Cherokee Skatepark

Soon Cherokee, NC will be opening their new skate park designed by Pillar Skate Park Design studios. Pillar is known for designing parks that are specific to the needs of the skaters in that community and that is exactly what they are doing in Cherokee. The new park is on a 3.5 acre tract and is going to be a 50/50 park between street skating elements and bowl and transition skating elements. Another cool thing about the Cherokee Skate Park is the green space surrounding it. It’s going to be killer! Check out the pics and tell us what you think!
Building a skate park for the skaters in our community is going to take all of your input and efforts. It’s so important for you to get involved and stay involved. We need to know what elements you want incorporated in the park. We need to know what kind of events we can plan to get you, the “Pittsboro Skater’s”, involved in the efforts to build the park.
We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at our next event on June 5th at The Pittsboro’s 1st Sunday Celebration. We will be on the corner of East Salisbury St with the quarter pipe, a rail, spine, and grind box for you to skate.

Pittsboro’s First Sunday Celebration

This past Sunday, Pittsboro Skate Park had a showing at the monthly First Sunday Celebration in downtown Pittsboro. Tony built a killer quarter pipe (3.5′ x 8′) for everyone to skate. We had some old school skaters and some young skaters ripping it up all afternoon. This a great way to show our community what skate boarding is all about. As we continue to raise funds, it is super important for us to show the community that the kids in town really want a park. So, if you are looking for a place to skate for free and legal, come out on the 1st Sunday in June and have a good time. Bring your board and safety gear! We will provide a ramp, rail, and parking lot. Our table is set up next to Capital Bank in front of Annie’s Black and White Guy. We are looking forward to seeing you there!

Thank you for your support

The Pittsboro Skate Park committee want to thank everyone who came out and supported our fundraiser at The General Store Cafe this past February. We had a great turnout and an awesome time. All the bands were killer. We definitely brought down the house and showed Pittsboro how to rock! We also want to thank all the local businesses for their donations and support. We raffled tons of prizes and were able to give away a few decks to some local kids who really love to skate.

Those of you who didn’t get to come, don’t worry because we have more events coming. We plan on being out at Pittsboro’s  First Sunday Celebration this summer and we have a few more events in the works. As soon as we get the details finalized, we will let you know.

February 26th Fundraiser

This is shaping up to be an awesome event.  The bands playing are Caltrop, Gasoline Stove, Shred Crust, and Blag’ard.  Admission is $10 and all proceeds go towards the skatepark.  The music will state at 7:30 and go well into the night.  We are having a raffle as well as a silent auction, plus tons of giveaways.  Here are some highlights of the raffle and silent auction items: two complete Pittsboro Sktaepark skateboards, Backbone complete Longboard, skate lessons, skate sweatshirts, decks, tees, dinners, haircuts, paintings, beach house vacation, Shakori Hills weekend passes, and a pile of other stuff.  Looking forward to seeing a great turnout.  Thanks in advance for the support.

Pittsboro Christmas Parade

The Pittsboro Christmas parade was a rousing occasion.  We had an awesome team effort and put forth an excellent float.  Several folks in the community have commented on how unique and theme oriented our float was.  I am very impressed with the support we currently have and the growing group of people we have working on this project.  I am looking forward to our next event, which is a three band fundraiser at the General Store Cafe in downtown Pittsboro on Saturday night, February 26, 2011.  Mark your calendars now!

Fundraiser Decks

I still have about 30 decks left.  The cost of $50 includes the deck and griptape only.  I will ship UPS for free.  Endless Grind in Raleigh is a good place to get the trucks, wheels, bearings, and hardware, plus they will help you set it up.  These boards will make good Christmas gifts.
